Gender Awaerness Program
GAP
The Gender Awareness Program’s objective is to enable entrepreneurial institutions to address gender, equity, and inclusion in their programming and organizational activities in the concept and implementation stage.
GAP supports entrepreneurial institutions’ activities by providing training on how to increase participation using gender mainstreaming strategies for equity and inclusion of women, people with disabilities, and individuals from marginalized communities.
Key components of UWAT
Gender Mainstreaming Training for Entrepreneurial Institutions:
Delivering specialized training across 4 regions of Ghana to over 25 hubs, equipping 2 representatives from each with strategies for gender mainstreaming in their programs.
Capacity Building on Equity and Inclusion Strategies:
Providing practical tools and methodologies to enable entrepreneurial institutions to design and implement activities that ensure the equitable participation of women, people with disabilities, and marginalized individuals.
Development of Inclusive Program Concepts and Implementation Frameworks:
Supporting the 25+ hubs in creating and adopting program designs and operational guidelines that proactively address gender, equity, and inclusion from the outset.
Enhanced Participation of Underrepresented Groups in Entrepreneurial Activities:
The direct outcome of these efforts is an increase in the involvement of women, people with disabilities, and individuals from marginalized communities within the over 2000 startups and individuals supported by the hubs.
Impact of GAP:
UWAT has had a significant impact on the Ghanaian ecosystem:
- Entrepreneurial institutions gained skills to design more inclusive programs. Hubs learned to actively involve diverse groups.
- Increased participation of women and marginalized groups in startups: More equitable access to entrepreneurial opportunities.
- A more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem developed across Ghana’s regions: Wider engagement and fairer opportunities for all.
